Synchronous Optical NETwork (SONET) acts as a network backbone, over which ultrahigh-speed, high-volume voice, video and data applications are run. SONET networks are often installed in the form of self-healing rings using dual fiber-optic strands. This construction provides very high levels of survivability for the information riding over the SONET path. SONET is a fiber-optic network architecture based upon a set of national and international standards for single-mode fiber transmission systems. It can act as a transport path for many different high-speed applications. It provides fast, near-100% survivable transport over Verizon's ubiquitous SONET network.

Transparent LAN Services (TLS) allow you to communicate among LANs. Using TLS, users at one site can quickly access information and online services located at another site. By choosing TLS over other alternatives, you can save time and money. With TLS, you don't have to purchase CPE or manage inter-LAN connections. TLS uses just fiber-optic LAN extension equipment, so you do not need to purchase and manage customer premises equipment (CPE). By using TLS, you save work, time and money.

Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is a standards-based technology that provides high-speed telecommunications transport of voice, data and video traffic over a single network facility. It's a fast-packet switched technology that divides all transmissions - voice, data or video - into fixed-length cells and sends those cells through virtual circuits over our fast-packet network. Our ATM Service offers the advantages of a cost-competitive nationwide footprint that supports the interconnection of local Verizon ATM services, as well as locations outside Verizon's local franchise. Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) across our network provide local, statewide, regional and national connectivity. Our ATM service offers Frame Relay to ATM Service Interworking (FRASI) PVCs, and point-to-point, bi-directional and symmetrical PVCs.
